BEFORE YOU OFFER YOUR HELP...

Not all rescues are created equal. There are good and bad rescue groups and there are good and bad coordinators. PLEASE do your homework before your offer your help. Your time, energy, and gas money are precious. Be particular where you spend these valuable resources.

Don't just look at where legs are needed, examine the entire transport sheet. How much information do you know about the group you are assisting in getting these animals? Do they alter ALL pets before adoption? Do they do vet and personal checks on their potential adopters? Do they do a home visit before adoption? Do they follow up after the adoption? Are the animals you are moving altered? Are they healthy?

Too many times I am saddened because yet another "sanctuary" has turned out to be a hoarding situation. How much does the coordinator asking for your help know about the rescue they are assisting? What is the coordinators screening process for the rescues they assist? These are all important questions to ask before you volunteer to help. Does moving an animal from death row only to sentence it to a lifetime of suffering at the hands of an overwhelmed or careless caretaker really do that animal justice?

MoStar screens ALL rescue groups before we will assist them in getting animals into their program. We expect the same from our fellow coordinators. Ask questions. View the rescues website. Make sure that their values mirror yours!
